Reading Reflection No. 3

The book I decided to read is Inbound Marketing by Brian Halligan.

1. The general idea of this book the evolution of marketing businesses with the evolving times. The author, Brian Halligan, is the CEO and founder of HubSpot and has a lot of experience with successfully marketing his business which he shared in this book. Most of his advice has to do with social media marketing in the modern world, and how if you're not doing this you're basically not marketing at all.

2. I think the advice given in this book is extremely relevant to what we're doing in this class. Besides the fact that we literally use a social media to make our posts in this class, many of our posts revolve around networking in the social media world and marketing to a specific segment via social media.

3. The exercise I would design for this class based on this book would be creating a social media post to market your product. You would need to include a picture and describe which social media platform you would be using for this post and the reasoning behind that decision.

4. The most surprising part of this book is how up-to-date it was considering it was written in 2009. Halligan amazingly was able to keep the book current and relevant despite the fact that a very small percentage of the social medias today existed in 2009. With a few exceptions, many of the same principles that this book was written on are still accurate and effective today even though the times have evolved so much in the last 9 years.

  1. Hey Emily,
I like your choice of book, it seems really interesting. I also liked how you related what you learned from the book to the relevance of this course. Your exercise you designed to relate to this class would also be useful, and social media is easy for students to use when turning in assignments, so I feel like you could execute this easily. I also find it interesting how up-to-date the book was, even when it was written nearly 10 years ago. Great post, keep it up!

  2. Hi, Emily! Great job on your post! The book you chose seems really relevant to this class since, as you pointed out, it pertains to social media and because we use social media to complete many classes! I hope you are able to use the information you learned from this book in your future endeavors! Keep it up! We're almost there!

  3. Hey Emily, great post about Brian Halligan’s book Inbound Marketing. Even though I have not read this book before it seems to be a great resource for future promotion of myself or a future business I have with social media. I feel as though you need a little more to the exercise that you came with but like the direction you were going with.
