Forming an Opportunity Belief

I believe there is an unmet need with people who want to find good restaurants and food in an area they are unfamiliar with. Anyone who travels somewhere without much or any knowledge of the place would have this problem. There are apps that exist that aid with this problem, but in my opinion, it could be done better. There are so many Instagrams that are solely food blogs, yet there is no easy way to search though these to find a good place to eat around you. I believe I could create an app that could search through Instagram's data and find specific food items or restaurants in the area that have gotten a lot of attention. There are so many food blogs and pictures of food on Instagram, yet they are not being put to any good or practical use. I am about 75% sure that this opportunity exists. Interview #1: 21 year old female who runs an Instagram food blog Do you have trouble finding places to eat while traveling? "I try to look at apps like Zomato or Yelp but I can...

Identifying Local Opportunities

1.      “Raw sewage spills wreak havoc as city ponders a fix” by Larry Barszewski from the Sun Sentinel ·       http://infoweb.newsbank.com/resources/doc/nb/news/161F29AC9AC1CEC8?p=WORLDNEWS ·       In January of 2017, a sewer pipe broke and 2.5 million gallons of sewage was poured over a neighborhood in Fort Lauderdale. The city has a very old sewer system and officials are trying to commission a play to pay for the fix as well as update the system so this does not happen again. This is also not the first time this has happened. People are demanding that the system be fixed immediately. ·       The problem is that the sewage system in this Fort Lauderdale neighborhood is very old and therefore it has broken many times and leaked sewage. ·       The people in this neighborhood in Fort Lauderdale have the problem. 2.      “When guests won’...

My Entrepreneurship Story

Image
I have been exposed to a form of entrepreneurship my whole life. My dad started his company 25 years ago with his brother and his father. The company has changed a lot from where it started originally and their journey was very back and forth. It began because a man they worked with previously came to them with a formula for a refractory material that was more effective and reliable than the existing ones in the market. They took the formula and decided to perfect it and market it and build a company surrounding it. The product, Thermbond, has changed a lot since it was first introduced and it has continued to improve throughout the years. Seeing my dad build up his company has made me want to follow in his footsteps in some way for as long as I can remember. I enrolled in this class because I would eventually like to become an entrepreneur myself. I hope this class will give me the tools to become a successful entrepreneur and help me learn to think about the world from an entrepr...

Bug List

It bugs me when my phone breaks. This bug exists because it is too expensive to build phones that would be sturdy enough to not break eventually. It bugs me when my dog pees and poops in the house. This happens because is is difficult to potty train dogs. It bugs me when my socks get wet when it's raining. This happens because the shoes I wear aren't waterproof so the water seeps through. It bugs me when I lose cell phone reception while in the elevator in my apartment complex. This happens because the elevator doesn't allow for a strong signal because of how it's built. It bugs me when my clothes shrink after drying them. This happens because cotton shrinks when it is heated and therefore my clothes shrink. It bugs me when the weather changes and I don't have the appropriate clothing to go outside comfortably. This is because weather changes are unpredictable and I don't have time to prepare. It bugs me when my dogs and cat shed on me. This happens beca...
