What's Your Secret Sauce?

The 5 things that I think make me unique are:
  1. Empathy- I think I am very empathic to how other people are feeling and I can relate to people emotionally.
  2. Critical thinking- I tend to think about problems in many different ways until I can find an appropriate solution and fix it.
  3. Honesty- I think I'm a very honest person; I value honesty over almost anything and I think it's extremely important to communicate how you're feeling and tell someone if you have a problem with something
  4. Independence- I have always been independent; I like to do things on my own figure things out in most situations without outside help unless needed.
  5. Curiosity- I ask a lot of questions about things I encounter because I like to understand everything in my surroundings. I tend to do research on things I find interesting and I like to be knowledgable about many things. 
Interviews:

1. Lauren Mazzarisi



Lauren mentioned that I am always up-to-date on current events and I know a lot about random things. She said I seem very quiet and reserved when you first meet me. Also she said I'm loyal and trustworthy and a good friend. 

2. Hayley Brandfon



Hayley said that I have an ability to look past things that have happened and stay in tune with my emotions. She also said that I adjust well in order to avoid mistakes I've made in the past.

3. Crisi Mintz

My mom said that I was very engaging from a young age and I'm very kind. She also said I'm caring and hardworking and creative.

4. Lily Mintz

Lily said that I tend to stick to what I love and I'm very reliable. She also said I'm hardworking, kind, funny, and intelligent.

5. Brett Wolff



Brett said that I am caring and kind and I am a good person to get advice from. He said I can cheer people up and that I am innovative, intelligent, and quick-witted.

    Hi Emily! I really enjoyed reading about your personal assessment and watching your interviews. I have noticed a common theme in your interviews is that people say that you are very caring and a great friend that they can always rely on. Those are really great traits that will help you everyday. I also thought it was interesting that you didnt notice these traits in yourself at first. It is interesting to see what people see in you when you didnt notice it on your own at first.

    Hi, Emily! Great job on this post! I think the best proof that you're a smart, kind, and generally great person comes from the fact that your sister had nice things to say about you! If you can get a sister to compliment you, then you've won everything! Ha ha! I had to bribe my sister to say kind things about me in my interviews but yours seems very willing to ready to put in a good word for you! You seem like a very smart and kind person and someone who is cherished by her friends and family! Keep it up!

    Hey Emily, it was interesting seeing the comparison of what you think of yourself and what your interviewees said about you. The main thing I saw everyone say about you is that you are kind and caring which are of course always great qualities to have. Your family seemed to be very happy while sharing these things about you in the interviews.

A reflection on the feedback you received from your last pitch:  The feedback I got on the first one was basically to have more emotion and create a hook in the beginning to get people interested. I didn't get much feedback on the second one but I definitely took the feedback from the first one into account while doing this one. What did you change, based on the feedback?  When I recorded the first and second ones I was reading from a rough script so I could easily remember what I wanted to say. I also had to stop and rerecord a few times because I messed up. But this time, I had it mostly memorized and I didn't need a script at all. I also only needed to record it once, unlike the other times. Also, I added an opening hook which neither of my previous ones had and I, again, tried to show some more emotion to keep the audience interested and sell them on my idea. Overall, I was definitely more comfortable doing this one than I was doing the first two.

Figuring Out Buyer Behavior No. 2

Alternative Evaluation: In my interviews, I learned a lot about customer needs and wants when it comes to my app. It seemed they would be unwilling to buy this app, and would only download it if it were for free. I explained that it was my original plan to offer the app for free, and make revenue from ads and sponsorships from restaurants. One of them suggested to maybe even take that a step farther and make the app downloadable for free, but have additional in-app purchases for new features, which people could buy if they are interested. I thought this was a great idea and potentially could make for another successful part of the app. How/where do they buy: It was obvious to my interviewees that my app would be available for download on the App Store for iPhones or the Google Play store for Androids. Final Reflection

The experience that sticks out the most to me in this class was the "What's your secret sauce?" assignment because it was really interesting to hear what the people closest to you think your biggest strengths and best qualities are. The most joyous experience for me in this class was figuring out more details about my app idea through these exercises and getting a better idea of what steps need to be taken if I actually want to create this app. I am most proud of myself for completing the elevator pitches effectively and stepping outside my comfort zone because that's not normally something I would enjoy doing. I think I have definitely developed somewhat of an entrepreneurial mindset by taking this class. This class has taught me the thought process that an entrepreneur goes through in order to develop a solid idea and execute it well.
