Idea Napkin No. 2

1. My name is Emily Mintz. After interviewing 5 people close to me last week, I think I am overall a caring, curious, and and honest person. I'd like to think I give good advice and I am good to my friends and people close to me. I see this business potentially playing a big role in my life. Since I already participate in running a food blog, I see creating this app as taking the next step in that world. I really enjoy doing it already so I think I would definitely enjoy doing it as a career and hopefully growing and expanding the app over the years.

2. I am offering an app that allows an easier way to search for restaurants in an unfamiliar area. The app would search Instagram's archives for solely food pictures in a certain location in order to make suggestions for the customer searching. In addition, in order to gain awareness for my app, I think it would be a good idea to team up with restaurants or other food Instagrams to offer deals for people that download and use my app.

3. I am offering this app to anyone who goes online to search for restaurants as a more effective way to find what they are looking for. More specifically, the people using my app will probably be people who follow food blogs on Instagram and also like to use those pictures as a basis of finding restaurants. These people are probably around the ages of 16-26 and have social media accounts.

4. These people care because they have run into the same problem I have. I come across delicious food pictures on Instagram all the time, and there is no easy way to find some good ones in my location without looking through all pictures in my location, including thousands that are not of food.

5. There are other apps to use like Zomato, Yelp, Opentable, etc., but none of these apps use the vast amount of pictures that have been posted on Instagram over the years to find restaurants to suggest to people.

I think all of these elements work well together. I think one of the things I could have a problem with is getting people to stray from their current methods of searching for food. Some people probably are content with their current app or method and may be a bit unwilling to try a new one.

Feedback Memo: In the feedback I got from the first napkin idea, they seemed to think that my idea is good especially because of the interest I already have in the area. Secondly, they suggested that I maybe team up with local restaurants and give deals for using my app, which I thought was a great idea! I incorporated that idea into my second point, and included the idea of also teaming up with other food Instagrams to get the word out there.

  1. Hi, Emily! Great job on your second napkin idea post! I also agree that these qualities and goals work very well together and that you really have the potential to make this a success! You brought up a good point about it being difficult to get people to stray from their usual methods of finding new places to eat. I think suggestions from friends and family are a go-to method for me, so maybe you can make that another facet of the app? Having a "suggested by" filter could really come in handy! Great job!

  2. Hey Emily, its great that this idea you made will probably be in your future. Throughout the course so far it seems like you have really ironed out almost all the wrinkles in this opportunity and could make the first real food finding app that will change how we look for food in the future. With food and Instagram being a big part of your life, I don’t doubt you could pull this idea off.
