Testing the Hypothesis, Part 2

Who: There are certain people who do not share the need for a way to search Instagram for food pictures. Some of these people are not avid social media users and do not understand the food blog culture and therefore are just not interested in using an app like this. Some other people do not eat out much or have dietary restrictions that would curb their interest in an app like this.

What: One of the people I interviewed mentioned that they agreed an app like this would help, but some people would probably continue to use their existing methods of finding restaurants because they don't find it to be an active problem like I do.

Why: I believe that the people who fall outside the boundaries of this need simply just do not care enough about this problem to make a change in their current routine. I, personally, find myself caring possibly more than others might because I am involved in the Instagram food blog culture since I run a food blog myself.

    Hi again, Emily! You mentioned you run a food blog and I would love a link to it! I would like to start one of my own someday but don't quite have the time right now. Anyway, I think this would be a very convenient app to have - especially for people like you who don't just enjoy food or look for a place to hang out but who make it a point to pay attention to flavors and presentation. Great job!

    Hey Emily,
    I love your idea, and I really think it would help a large amount of people who look for food in areas they don't know! The fact that there is no way to search Instagram strictly for food is a bit crazy thinking about how much money businesses could make by just little ads for where they are located! I also saw how you said people with dietary restrictions would be left out, but I think you can change that maybe with an added tag? Just an idea!

    Hey Emily, the information you found out about people on the outside of your problem is very helpful in understanding the needs of this opportunity. Since you have a food blog on Instagram and this post, I can see that you feel much more passionate about this opportunity than some which is good because if you are creating something you need to be passionate about it when others are not.

    Hi Emily, this is a great idea as I have said about your past posts. But it has opened my eyes towards there being no way to directly search for food on Instagram. The passion you show for this opportunity is amazing and very inspiring. Keep doing what you are doing and I think you will get this done.

A reflection on the feedback you received from your last pitch:  The feedback I got on the first one was basically to have more emotion and create a hook in the beginning to get people interested. I didn't get much feedback on the second one but I definitely took the feedback from the first one into account while doing this one. What did you change, based on the feedback?  When I recorded the first and second ones I was reading from a rough script so I could easily remember what I wanted to say. I also had to stop and rerecord a few times because I messed up. But this time, I had it mostly memorized and I didn't need a script at all. Figuring Out Buyer Behavior No. 2

Alternative Evaluation: In my interviews, I learned a lot about customer needs and wants when it comes to my app. It seemed they would be unwilling to buy this app, and would only download it if it were for free. I explained that it was my original plan to offer the app for free, and make revenue from ads and sponsorships from restaurants. One of them suggested to maybe even take that a step farther and make the app downloadable for free, but have additional in-app purchases for new features, which people could buy if they are interested. Final Reflection

The experience that sticks out the most to me in this class was the "What's your secret sauce?" assignment because it was really interesting to hear what the people closest to you think your biggest strengths and best qualities are. The most joyous experience for me in this class was figuring out more details about my app idea through these exercises and getting a better idea of what steps need to be taken if I actually want to create this app. I am most proud of myself for completing the elevator pitches effectively and stepping outside my comfort zone because that's not normally something I would enjoy doing. I think I have definitely developed somewhat of an entrepreneurial mindset by taking this class. This class has taught me the thought process that an entrepreneur goes through in order to develop a solid idea and execute it well.
