Solving the Problem

In my previous posts, the problem I identified that I believe exists is the lack of an efficient way to search for restaurants and food in an area that you may be unfamiliar with. A solution to this problem would be an app that effectively finds restaurants by searching through Instagram's archives. Currently while searching through Instagram itself for food pictures and blogs, you are able to search for a location but cannot specifically narrow down those pictures to only food ones, so it is very difficult to find a restaurant efficiently. My idea is to create an app where you can search a location and it finds Instagrams of food that have been posted that have over a certain number of likes, so you can narrow down the millions of Instagrams to specific ones you may be searching for. There are thousands of food blogs out there that have not been put to good use, and this app would create a search tool that would give all of these food pictures and blogs a purpose other than just looking at them.

    Hi, Emily! Great job on this assignment. I think that this is a great idea! You're right when you said that it's difficult to find a restaurant from Instagram. I think it would be great if we could take this a step further and just click the picture and that will automatically copy the address to Google Maps so we can just click and go!

    Emily, your solution to the problem in this post is very thought out and refined. I like the idea of sifting through pictures to only find food pictures with the highest number of likes. I feel like if this was made, it could be easily sold to Instagram to use as a food section on their app. Especially since you are using their information for your app, which I think is the only problem I see with this current solution.

    Hi Emily, once again this idea just keeps getting better and better every time I read about it. I hope one day it is available. I think it would help to get ideas from apps such as Foursquare and yelp. But you are definitely on your way to something great.

A reflection on the feedback you received from your last pitch:  The feedback I got on the first one was basically to have more emotion and create a hook in the beginning to get people interested. I didn't get much feedback on the second one but I definitely took the feedback from the first one into account while doing this one. What did you change, based on the feedback?  When I recorded the first and second ones I was reading from a rough script so I could easily remember what I wanted to say. I also had to stop and rerecord a few times because I messed up. But this time, I had it mostly memorized and I didn't need a script at all. Figuring Out Buyer Behavior No. 2

Alternative Evaluation: In my interviews, I learned a lot about customer needs and wants when it comes to my app. It seemed they would be unwilling to buy this app, and would only download it if it were for free. I explained that it was my original plan to offer the app for free, and make revenue from ads and sponsorships from restaurants. One of them suggested to maybe even take that a step farther and make the app downloadable for free, but have additional in-app purchases for new features, which people could buy if they are interested. Final Reflection

The experience that sticks out the most to me in this class was the "What's your secret sauce?" assignment because it was really interesting to hear what the people closest to you think your biggest strengths and best qualities are. The most joyous experience for me in this class was figuring out more details about my app idea through these exercises and getting a better idea of what steps need to be taken if I actually want to create this app. I am most proud of myself for completing the elevator pitches effectively and stepping outside my comfort zone because that's not normally something I would enjoy doing. I think I have definitely developed somewhat of an entrepreneurial mindset by taking this class. This class has taught me the thought process that an entrepreneur goes through in order to develop a solid idea and execute it well.
