My Entrepreneurship Story

I have been exposed to a form of entrepreneurship my whole life. My dad started his company 25 years ago with his brother and his father. The company has changed a lot from where it started originally and their journey was very back and forth. It began because a man they worked with previously came to them with a formula for a refractory material that was more effective and reliable than the existing ones in the market. They took the formula and decided to perfect it and market it and build a company surrounding it. The product, Thermbond, has changed a lot since it was first introduced and it has continued to improve throughout the years. Seeing my dad build up his company has made me want to follow in his footsteps in some way for as long as I can remember.

I enrolled in this class because I would eventually like to become an entrepreneur myself. I hope this class will give me the tools to become a successful entrepreneur and help me learn to think about the world from an entrepreneurial perspective.

  1. Hi, Emily!

Great job on your post! I have a lot of respect for your family for taking the risk of being entrepreneurs! It's not an easy task! My dad is also an entrepreneur. He quit his county job to open his own engineering firm and then later bought a grocery store. Today, he owns and runs both! It's really great to be able to watch the process and eye-opening to understand just how difficult it is to open your own business and know that if it doesn't work out, there's really nothing to fall back on. Good luck in pursuing your dreams!

  2. Emily, it was super interesting hearing your story about your dad. Having an entrepreneur in your family is a great role model to look up to. Its unsurprising that you also would like to be an entrepreneur. Heres hoping this class can provide you, me, and the rest of the students enrolled in this class, the tools we need to succeed in this field.

  3. Hey Emily,
Your story was very interesting, and I felt my entrepreneurship story had a similar basis since my step father had built a company with his father and brother. I too would like to follow in my step father’s footsteps by creating a successful business that is as long lasting and profitable as the business he has been building. Good luck in your future endeavors!
